Tracking down Greta Thunberg and covering her climate rally in Edmonton was one of our biggest video hits of the year!
Why? Because ordinary people are tired of being lectured to by the left-wing, eco-radical elites of the United Nations. They are desperate for the other side of the story — the side of the minivan-driving hockey mom, oil patch dad and hard-working roughneck.
And since our journalistic mission at Rebel News is to go beyond the mainstream media narrative, we’ve made it a priority to cover the big UN climate change conferences in Morocco, Germany and Poland.
We have to personally scrutinize the politicians, unelected bureaucrats and international elites who are making our lives more expensive by the day — because, if not, who else will? The CBC, The Toronto Star?
However, when I applied to go to my first UN conference in Morocco, they tried to ban me by saying they do not accredit advocacy journalists, which is crazy because the entire conference is full of pro-carbon tax advocates.
Well, we fought back and they eventually let us in.
I showed you the parking lots full of idling buses, the disposable Potemkin village built in the middle of the Moroccan desert to house the thing, and I showed you how they watered the desert to keep the dust off the shoes of the delegates going into meetings. And I even confronted a Canadian delegate, an Indian Chief from Manitoba, and his press secretary.
But for that interaction — for doing my job and telling the truth — I was banned from these conferences going forward at the request of the Canadian government.
Yet that didn’t stop me from covering the next event in Germany a year later. I was still able to show you the hundreds of diesel fuel heaters and light towers they were using to power this anti-fossil fuel conference.
And it won’t stop me from going this year either — even though my application for accreditation has been declined again!
This time, the conference is in Madrid in less than two weeks, and instead of going with a cameraman, I’m going with my friend Keean Bexte. After all, two trouble-making Rebels are always better than one — and Keean is not afraid to speak truth to power!
Keean and I are self-contained — we do most of our work in the field with our cell phones. And we have rented a cost-effective Airbnb and booked the cheapest flights we could find.
