I went to cover the anti-Australia Day protests. I went peacefully, as a fully-accredited journalist. I had cameramen with me and even a small security detail — because I wanted to do real journalism.
But police wouldn’t have any of it.
Without any reasonable grounds, they physically grabbed, me, pulled me away from my team, and threw me in the back of a police van.
They let me keep my phone, which is how I’m writing to you now. But I am literally in police custody as I write this.
Here’s a quick video I just filmed:
Please help me out. I have managed to get a message to my lawyer — we’ve been through this before, and we suspected that it might happen again.
My instructions to her were simple: get me out of police custody and get me back doing public interest journalism!
If you can help cover the costs of the legal battle that I’m in RIGHT NOW, please donate.
Thanks very much.
I’ll update you as soon as I’m out of this police van.
